If you’ve been following me on social media, I’ve had a few cheat days in my healthy diet lately. The latest one was eating a slice of tres leches cake during my parents’ anniversary dinner.
It was SO. FREAKIN. GOOD.
Not so good on my body or face though. I ended up breaking out in hives for the past week!!!
I guess my body couldn’t handle all the dairy and the refined sugar so trust me, I’ve learned my lesson. I had just gotten my facial about a week before and my skin was looking REALLY good.
(I miss you smooth and soft glowy skin.)
So I have to give major credit to the actual facial itself (read the post here), but I learned from an esthetician last year that the type of products you use before can also benefit your skin during a microdermabrasion facial.
Now, keep in mind I have acne prone and dry combination skin. I took notes and here’s what I use for two weeks:
One thing each esthetician I’ve come across is how dehydrated my skin is. Increase your water intake because your skin will be so much more moisturized!
Deep Pore Cleanser
My skin can get really congested, so to loosen clogged pores before a microdermabrasion and extractions, I use a deep pore cleanser. At the moment, I’m using the Kasnoff Stimulating Cleansing Paste, which is nothing like I’ve ever used before. But I found it really effective at removing all my makeup and cleansing everyday.
Glycolic Acid Moisturizer
To help with breakouts and the texture of my skin, I used a glycolic acid moisturizer day and night. I found that with my dry combination skin, it did dry out my skin a little bit, but my skin’s scarring, texture and tone improved. The Kasnoff Glycolic Acid Cream is a little strong (I think 20%), so if you’re just starting to use glycolic acid, I’d start with a product with 10% or less.
Thick Moisturizing Eye Cream
I typically use a really thick eye cream already, but I wanted to continue using it, especially since I wanted to keep my entire face as moisturized as possible before my facial. I’ve been using the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Cream.
I mentioned that the glycolic acid moisturizer began to dry out my skin, so I used a second moisturizer on top to keep my skin soft and supple. I really like the It Cosmetics Confidence In A Cream at the moment.
Can’t forget the SPF! Using glycolic acid products exfoliates and reveals fresh new skin (which makes your skin sensitive to the sun), so it’s important to protect that skin to prevent sun damage.
Ok, I’m off to wash my face and get ready for bed. It’s honestly one of my favorite parts of the day – it feels so good to get all that makeup off!!
