It turns out Vitamin C is a lot more useful than preventing the common cold.
Growing up I always heard I should drink orange juice to get my dose of Vitamin C. What I didn’t hear was having skincare items with Vitamin C. But the more I learn about skincare, the more I learn about various ingredients and their benefits! Vitamin C is definitely one of the ingredients people look for when brightening their skin. I’m not talking about the bleaching type or brightening, I’m talking about that lit from within type brightening.
Vitamin C is ascorbic acid which is known to boost firmer-feeling skin. This powerhouse ingredient is backed by research for dramatically brightening and evening skin tone. So if you’re sitting there with dull and uneven skin tone, this may be an ingredient you should be looking to try. Vitamin C is known to help even out your skin tone, protect your skin from pollution, and hydrate your skin. All steps to help keep your skin looking youthful for as long as possible.

For me, one of the most prevalent vitamin C products out there has to be the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum. This one is such a holy grail for many out there and for good reason. With continued use, I notice that my skin just looks better. I’m not a huge fan of the scent as it brings me back to middle school wood shop class (of all the things), and it just stings so sharply in my nose – it’s definitely a hurdle to get over. It’s a thick serum that does leave my skin feeling a tad sticky, but it can be applied to the back of your hands as well which helps with excess product. It’s designated for daytime use and helps boost collagen production to help reduce wrinkles and dark spots.
The next one that I tried was the Georgette Klinger Vitamin C Toner which I absolutely love. They recently revamped their product line and the updated and modern packaging is right up my alley. I love how streamlined the packaging has become to let the products shine through. This one has been my go-to morning toner when I’m not reaching for my Pixi Glow Tonic. It helps fade hyper-pigmentation scars which is something I personally struggle with. At the same time, it helps build up collagen which leaves you with brighter and firmer skin. Partnered with ingredients such as aloe, witch hazel, and elderflower extracts, this one leaves your skin free of oil and dirt but never stripped. This one leaves my skin looking so bright and feeling extremely soft. It never dries my skin out but leaves it looking radiant. It also smells incredible so kudos for that.
From my Nourish Beauty Box subscription, I received the Peony Cosmetics Celery Heart Cream. One of the ingredients in it is Vitamin C, along with Vitamin A & E and Indian Celery Seed. I have been reaching for this one both night and day. It smells INCREDIBLE and the scent is just highly addictive. This one sinks into the skin well which is a thumbs up from me as I hate creams that are heavy and leave my skin feeling meh and sticky.
A new brand on my radar is Brooklyn Botany. Honestly, I’m such a sucker for small brands and I love when independent brands come out with great products. They were kind enough to send me their Vitamin C Serum – L Ascorbic Acid Serum which I have been loving. It’s nice and lightweight and I love using this at night to reveal brighter skin. It provides UV protection and helps with collagen reproduction. In addition, it follows through on claims for brighter skin.
The last thing on my list is a new concept that is quite fond of. It’s the Vitabrid c12 FACE Brightening Powder. Unlike other products, this one has active Vitamin C ingredients to help firm, brighten, and rejuvenate the skin. Since you mix this powder with any serum, it releases Vitamin C into your skin over the course of 12 hours, keeping your skin glowing and looking luminous. It also helps with the overall appearance of fine lines and wrinkles which helps as we slowly (but surely) get older.
There are tons of vitamin C skincare products on the market so do some research if that’s something you’re looking to incorporate into your routine. The benefits are wonderful and worth the extra step and addition into your routine.
