It’s cold and our dry skin needs help!
Come winter time I’m weary to do anything to my body and hair. It’s already cold enough as it is and I can’t be bothered to slather anything on my body or stand in the cold. I’d much rather be curled up in a sweater under a blanket. 🙂 So here are some of the bits I’m reaching for in this cold weather.
A GOOD SCRUB
I think one of the key things to do in the winter is scrub your body and exfoliate all the dead skin off. If you’re too lazy to apply moisturizer, at least this will help slough off all the dry layers of flaky skin that is not cute. My favorite discovery this year has to be the Herbivore Botanicals Coco Rose scrub. It’s a lush and thick scrub that’s more dry and abrasive. It comes housed in a beautiful little glass jar and looks so beautiful on your shower display. Something semi new on the lineup is the Frank Body scrub which is now housed in a shower-friendly and waterproof package. They also have a few scents available so you can pick one to your liking.

A GOOD SHOWER OIL
I discovered shower oils maybe last year thanks to the L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil which smells divine. This year, Glossier launched their Body Hero Duo which comes with a shower oil of their own, the Daily Body Wash. It’s not as thick and luxurious as the L’Occitane offering but it’s still luxe and helps soften my skin. If you’re quite lazy with moisturizing, this also helps ever so slightly and helps soothe your skin so it won’t be as dry or scaly as usual.

A GOOD MOISTURIZER
I’m trying to be better about moisturizing and have some for daytime and some for nighttime. For daytime, I’ve been reaching for the Glossier Body Hero Daily Perfecting Cream which has a slight scent of orange blossom. It has an ever so slightly small amount of shimmer which gives your skin a nice and healthy glow – sans chunky glitter bits. For nighttime I like to go in with something a little heftier and without any shimmer and the Tatcha Soothing Silk Body Butter is nice and sinks into your skin quickly so you don’t have that uncomfortable sticky feel afterwards.

A GOOD EYE MASK
No, I’m not talking about the silk ones that cover your eyes when you sleep, I’m talking those little hydrating gel ones that pack a punch of moisture. Skin can get dry, even that little bit of skin under your eye, so help it along and keep it hydrated. My favorite are these Patchology Flashpatch Restoring Night Gels which are easy quick fixes. I love that these come in a little container because it’s less wasteful with packaging and is easy enough to use once or twice a week.

A GOOD JADE ROLLER
I’m taking a page out of my grandma’s skincare routine and have added in a jade roller – I recently got this one from Mount Lai that is such great quality and a smooth roll. This is something that has been passed down from generations of Asians to soothe skin by improving blood circulation + skin tone. Over time it helps promote lymphatic drainage, reduce puffiness and wrinkles, and helps reduce dark under-eye circles. Although this is much more cooling during the warmer months, this is still just as great during the colder months. During the colder months skin can get dry and dull, and doing this just helps liven up your complexion. It’s also a good habit to get in the routine of.
