Hint: don’t swipe or brush on your glitter nail polish.
Now that all the holiday glitz and glam are gone, I’m feeling a little glitter deprived. Glitter and the holiday season usually go hand in hand, but I say, why not wear glitter all year round?!
Applying glitter nail polish can be tricky, but you have to remember, not all glitter nail polish is made equally. Some can be full of glitter, while some can have a few specks in it. While brushing on glitter nail polish sounds like the logical thing to do, I’ve found a technique that’ll give you a super opaque glitter mani every time.
Even though it’s subtle, there’s a lot of fun with a simple twist. For this manicure, I used butter LONDON’s The 444 (similar here) and Essie’s Beyond Cozy.

STEP 1
Once my base coat is completely dry, I apply butter LONDON’s The 444 (similar here) from the cuticle base to the nail’s mid-section. This was done with two coats.

STEP 2
Take Essie’s Beyond Cozy and apply it to the top half of the nail. It’s okay if the manicure isn’t blended just yet!
From here, take either polish and drain any excess polish down the neck of the bottle so there isn’t too much glitter for this application. You’ll dab lightly to create a transition. Keep in mind I’m not doing this with a sponge – I find that sponges rip on the glitter during the dabbing process, leaving bits and pieces on the nail. Go through this dabbing process back and forth between each color until you’re satisfied with how it looks!
STEP 3
Go over with a couple top coats and you’re all set! The final look using these colors is so fun because they’re what I call “quiet glitter” – they’re not too “in your face” and it’s still fun! You can also do this type of look with any glitter shades. Go crazy with your choices and celebrate every day with some glitter!
