Creating a winged liner got so much easier.
Applying eyeliner has always been a struggle for me. On my hooded eyelids, I noticed that applying thick eyeliner along my upper lash line made my eyes look smaller and forced my eyeshadow to disappear into the crease of my eyelid. Every time I attempted to put on liner, I ended up taking it all off with a Q-tip. So, after a million failed attempts, I gave up on liquid liner.
Recently, I started experimenting again with eyeliner. Except for this time, I swapped out my liquid liner for an angled brush and black eyeshadow. I found that I had much more control in the application process, and the finished look was more soft and sultry than sharp and graphic. Keep reading to see how I do it!
What you need:
- Matte black eyeshadow (like this one or this one)
- Setting spray (like this one or this one)

Use a Matte Black Eyeshadow
Spray your angled brush with setting spray and then pick up some black eyeshadow on the brush. Make sure to tap off the excess shadow to reduce fallout.
Stop Three-Quarters Of The Way In
Create the wing, but draw your liner only three-quarters of the way in.
Soften the Liner by Smudging It
Smudge the eyeshadow into your upper lash line, concentrating on only the outer third of your eye.
Customize Your Wing
Extend your wing to the desired length. Curl your lashes and apply mascara!
Voila! You’re finished!
I’m not a huge fan of super thick and dark liner on my own eyes, but when I want a sultrier look, I might use this trick to elongate my eyes and give the illusion of really long outer lashes. This winged liner is super subtle but adds a little bit of a sexy, feminine touch to unlined eyes.
