Think of this as a lash extension diary.
Although I love makeup, when it comes to my daily routine, I’m pretty low maintenance – I roll out of bed, change, and go to class without any makeup. As a student, I have late nights studying or going to school events, so sleep is something I truly cherish.
I’ve heard of lash extensions before, but I’ve never had the chance to get them done. I think every woman dreams of lush long lashes, but I think what attracted me most was a shorter morning routine. If having lash extensions meant skipping the entire lash-curling and mascara-applying part of getting ready, I’m SO there.
Curious about getting eyelash extensions yourself? I visited Cilia Salon in SF to give them a try — here’s what to expect:
Before the appointment
To prepare for my appointment, it was recommended that I come with a cleansed face without any makeup, especially around my eye area. I wore loose-fitting clothes to stay comfortable for the few hours I would be laying down and getting the lashes attached.

During my appointment:
Since this was my first time getting it done, I didn’t really know what style of lashes I wanted. In the end, the artist and I both agreed on something a bit more natural to play it safe.
The application process was super relaxing for me and painless. All I had to do was lay still with my eyes closed while the technician glued each synthetic lash to my natural lash. The entire process took a few hours, so make sure you’re hydrated, you went to the bathroom, and have eaten because you can’t move much during the process.
Once the appointment was over, we combed through the lashes to make sure the extensions were all straight. The artist also gave me some tips on how to take care of my lashes: don’t wet it for at least 24 hours, keep it clean otherwise, don’t use any oil-based products, and with a gifted spoolie, to carefully brush my lashes to keep it tangle-free.

After the appointment
I’m still getting used to having so many lashes! Every time I look in the mirror I’m surprised by how noticeable of a difference the lash extensions make. The night of, I’ve had to adjust how I wash my face to keep my lashes from getting wet. I also did my best to avoid sleeping on my face to keep from knocking lashes off.
Two weeks later
Some of the lash extensions have fallen out now, but I’m still loving how they look! Directly after the appointment, the lashes were really curly and really full, but I’m honestly liking the way they look after it’s thinned out!
I wake up in the morning and the lash extensions really do cut my morning routine down. Thanks to the lashes, I don’t really feel like I need any eye makeup! I typically just put on a little concealer, fill in my brows, and comb through my lashes with a clean spoolie and I’m all good to go.
I’ve only had to make minor adjustments to take care of my new lash extensions. These little adjustments are totally worth it to shave off the time it takes in my usual routine to keep my lashes from tangling up and staying curled throughout the day. I love getting up in the morning and already looking alert, awake, put-together!
