We promise, it’ll step-up your skincare game.
In between visits to my aesthetician, I like to set aside time every Sunday for a little at-home spa session. After my shower, I light some candles, get Netflix ready and I bring out an exfoliator and a mask (or two if I’m feeling my skin needs it). I had my facial routine down when I realized something was missing:
I’ve had my fair share of facials and usually, the first thing an aesthetician brings out is this huge face steamer and steams my face while she gets ready to cleanse. According to Christina of The Skin Clinic, “a gentle steam once a week . . . can help skin cells release toxins as well as assist cleansers and subsequent products to penetrate deeply and effectively. ”
Sure, a hot shower will open up your pores, but as the beauty obsessed person I am, I picked up a face steamer so that I could get the BEST spa facial at home.
So why steam?
As Christina said, a gentle steam opens up pores so that when you use cleansers, masks, serums, etc, your pores will be able to absorb these products. This is especially helpful when I’m in need of a deep pore cleanse and without my pores being open, the clay masks I use would not be able to suck out all the dirt and oils from my pores. I’ve noticed that my skin looks plumper and more moisturized too.
The better your skin looks, the better your makeup will apply!
