Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet Review and Swatches
A pretty new addition to the drugstore scene, the Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvets are a continuation of the Rimmel Show Off line. Now, I’m a big fan of the Lip Lacquers – they apply extremely creamy, they’re comfortable to wear, they’re long lasting, really opaque, I mean, the list goes on and on for me. If you haven’t tried those yet, I highly recommend them!
Anyway, back to the Lip Velvets. I know they’re available for around $5.99 at Ulta, Walgreens and CVS. There’s only 5 shades available right now: Atomic Rose, Meteoric Matte, Orange-Ology, Burning Lava, and Apollo. Out of those 5, I only picked up Burning Lava and Meteoric Matte since I knew the other shades weren’t best suited for my skin tone. Hoping that they will come out with more shades like the Lip Lacquers, specifically a nude one that won’t make me look dead.
Right off the bat, the texture is extremely similar to the Lip Lacquers – very creamy and moisturizing. If you think they’re similar to the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, they’re not. The Lip Velvet‘s applicator applies a much more even coverage across the lips and provides more control. The pigmentation is 10x better and all you need is one coat.
After swatching, I waited for a while for the Lip Velvets to set into a matte finish. The thinner the layer, the more “matte” it dried, but even so, the finish was much more glossy compared to other matte lip products I’ve tried. As you can see in the swatches below, Burning Lava dried down slightly, while Meteoric Matte didn’t at all.
That being said, I really did enjoy wearing the Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvets, just don’t expect them to be matte at all.

Okay, these doesn’t look very matte at all. That’s sad! I was actually looking forward to trying these out because I didn’t like the non-matte formula of the original ones -_-
Right? The Kate Moss matte lipsticks were the perfect amount of matte for me, I was hoping that they’d be similar to those!
These are really gorgeous colours. I think I’d actually prefer the glossy finish to the matte because these really are gorgeous. They both really suit you! 🙂
