Visiting the spa is definitely a luxury for me and when I get the chance to go, you bet I’m soaking it all in and picking my facialist’s brain. My favorite is from Burke Williams in San Jose and she’s taught me so much about my face and living a more healthy life. So when I’m not able to visit her often, I’ve picked up some tips from her to help me keep my skin in the best shape I can.
1.) Drink Water: And lots of it. Experts say you’re supposed to drink HALF your weight in ounces. I have a problem with congestion in my face, especially around my mouth due to hormonal acne and not drinking enough water. When you drink enough water, your body is able to flush out the toxins out of your body (bumps from congestion = toxins). When I consciously make an effort to drink, I notice a difference in my skin – it’s a lot more moisturized and clearer.
2.) Separate Towel for Your Face: Maybe this has been a no-brainer for you all along, but my facialist emphasized that I should be using a separate towel for my face and to keep all things super sanitized when it comes to things being in contact with my face. This means changing your pillowcases every week, sanitizing your brushes, using clean hands when you moisturize, etc.
3.) Vitamin C Serum: Brightening products are my best friend when it comes to my acne scarring and to help with that, my facialist recommended I use a vitamin C serum. Not only does it brighten, it has high levels of antioxidants to help shield your skin from the elements, and helps to stimulate collagen. I personally use the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, but there are plenty of other serums on the market (see below!).
4.) Fruits/Veggies: This is pretty self explanatory, but what you eat affects the way your body feels. Fresh fruits and veggies contain tons of vitamins and minerals that your body and skin needs. If you’re not getting the right vitamins and minerals from your diet, there are supplements you can buy to help. I keep Vibrant Greens around and add it to my smoothies whenever I get the chance. It’s absolutely amazing and I notice a change in my energy and in my skin as well.
5.) Exfoliate Gently: I’m guilty of over exfoliating sometimes and I had no idea that over exfoliating can be damaging to your skin. I’ve been told that exfoliation is only needed just a couple times a week with a gentle exfoliant. If you also have acne and acne scarring, it’s recommended that you use a chemical exfoliant as well.
As someone who is always battling with their skin, I’d love to hear any tips and tricks you have on keeping your skin clear!

Love the tips! I find that using simple products is great too! When you start complicating things your skin can get that way too! I always ask for a sample and go home and test it out!

Having beautiful skin is most important. And I think my skin is beautiful. I have found using a Clarisonic really helps with getting my face very clean, and clean skin is where it all begins. The Clarisonic tools can be a bit pricey – I have the Clarisonic Plus which was more than $200 – but there are other methods of getting your face very clean – like a good washcloth. I am also a fan serums – daytime and nighttime serums have made a world of difference in my skin texture and tone.

Loooove Clarisonic, I can’t go a day without it!! I start to breakout if I don’t use it daily.
