Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Monochrome Swatches & Review (c/o)
Oh Hourglass, is there anything you don’t do right?
I’m sure you’ve seen many bloggers (and now me) swoon over the new Modernist Eyeshadow Palettes and for good reason, too.
Available in 7 other shades, these palettes are for the girl who loves her nudes. The palettes have a range of pinks, browns, and even olives, but all super wearable and sophisticated.
The Monochrome palette comes with four mattes and one shimmer. The three mauve shades are very similar in color and found it hard to differentiate when on my skin. Applying moist on the lid I think will help intensify the shadow if you’re looking for a more dramatic look.
The texture is creamy and finely milled, providing a good amount of product on the brush when I applied it onto my lid. I recommend wearing an eyeshadow primer to help with the powder-iness of the shadow. But because the colors were so muted, it’s pretty foolproof if you’re challenged in the eyeshadow department. Also loving that the eyeshadows are placed in a way where you can start from lightest to darkest, without looking like a panda.
This probably goes without saying, but let’s not forget about the unique eyeshadow design and gorgeous packaging that Hourglass is known for. I think the quality of the case is really crucial for those who travel often since the shadows are really soft.
Cliff’s Notes version: this palette is perfect for the girl who prefers softly defined eyes and sophisticated looks over the bold and edgy.
If you had to choose, which Modernist palette would you want?

This palette looks stunning, although I think I’d have to go for the more olive toned palette! I’ve heard a lot of people say that the colours are quite chalky and get mixed up quite easily though, but it’s good to know that it worked well for you! xx

I’ve heard mixed reviews too, but it’s definitely all personal preference.
So gorgeous, I would be to afraid to use it. I wouldn’t want to ruin the beauty.

Yaaay, really happy you love it too!
I have this exact palette and love it. For me, it’s the perfect palette for those days when I don’t know what to do. It’s a complete eye look, and the colours are muted enough for the day, or can be built up for the evening. I’m completely obsessed (and really don’t understand all the negative reviews!)

Nice, I’m so glad you feel the same way!
I love the look of these palettes. I used to think when these came out that the raised look of the shadows was a bit strange but now i think it’s quite unique and pretty. I love the sound of the texture of these shadows, such a dream. I’d love to own one but one with deeper shades.
OOH yes, the dark plummy ones would look nice.
Such pretty shades! I’d definitely go for the brown tones as I find that they suit me better. I love the way the eyeshadows are pressed on these palettes! <3
