This is a must so your skin doesn’t hate you the next morning.
I think it’s safe to say that Halloween is the perfect time to experiment with makeup, but what about when all the fun is over and it’s time to go home? You’re left with a face full of makeup and removing it all can seem like the hardest task EVER.
I’ve had my share of nights where I could not be bothered with removing my makeup and by the next morning, I instantly felt a difference in my skin and my skin continued to hate me for the next week or so. Trust me, sleeping in a full face of makeup is never good idea. You’ll experience dehydrated skin, chapped lips, possible eye irritation from mascara or glue from your falsies, clogged pores that lead to breakouts, and exposure to free-radicals that lead to wrinkles and collagen breakdown.
Need proof? This woman aged 10 years by not removing her makeup for an entire month!
Now that I got your attention, here’s what you’ll need to properly remove all your Halloween makeup:
Makeup Remover Wipes
While we don’t recommend you just use wipes to cleanse your face, it’s a good first step to remove the bulk of the makeup and costume paint. But if you can’t be bothered to do a full skincare routine, at least use makeup remover wipes as the very last resort.

Cleansing Oil or Cleansing Balm
When it comes to stubborn makeup, you can’t go wrong with a cleansing oil or balm. Massage it over dry skin, even over eyelashes and eyelids, and watch the makeup melt away. You can either rinse it off with warm water or wipe off with a warm wash cloth to be extra thorough.
Using an oil or balm depends on your preference and there are different formulas to use depending on your skin type. Our current faves include:
Dermalogica’s PreCleanse: a liquid form oil cleanser with antioxidants that melts layers of oil, sunscreen, waterproof makeup, and environmental pollutants that can build up on your skin. Even works on oily skin types!
Banila Co Clean It Zero: a solid balm that also dissolves makeup. This Korean cult product contains papaya extract to naturally exfoliate skin and Vitamin C to brighten.
Pixi Beauty’s Double Cleanse: made by Caroline Hirons, an esthetician and skincare guru. A 2 in 1 product – a solid oil to remove makeup and a cleansing cream to cleanse the skin to prep it for your next skincare steps.

Cleansing Water
Pay close attention to your neck, the skin around your ears, or any residue underneath your eyes. If you still have some makeup left, we recommend using cleansing waters like this one and this one, to make sure you get every bit of last makeup off.

Face Cleanser
Now that all your makeup is off, choose a cleanser (like this one) that’s going to gently remove additional impurities while maintaining your skin’s moisture balance.
