Lorac PRO Contour Palette Swatches & Review
Oh gosh. Contour kits are one of my biggest makeup weaknesses and as soon as I heard about this one, I ordered one immediately.
Unlike other contour palettes I’ve tried, the Lorac PRO Contour Palette comes with a contour brush similar to the ever-so-coveted NARS Ita brush.
The Lorac PRO Palettes are some of my favorite eyeshadow palettes with impeccable mattes that are so pigmented and so easy to blend.
The Beige and Yellow highlights are both matte and crazy pigmented. Depending on your skin tone, you can blend to create a custom shade, but for me, the yellow highlight will do.
The Yellow Highlight is a smidge lighter than the Banana powder from the Anastasia Contour Kit.
The Beige Highlight is strong too, much too light for my skin tone and has more payoff than Anastasia’s Vanilla.
The Shimmer Highlight swatches pretty neutral and gives a pretty not-too-in-your-face highlight once blended out. I think you can build it up for more intensity, but when very blended out, it is a wearable daytime highlight. It definitely shows up more on my skin than Anastasia’s Sand, which looks a little bit peachier.
One problem that I did notice with the Medium Anastasia Contour Kit was that the contour shades were sometimes too warm. Java was my true contour shade in that palette, while I used the other shades to bronze up and add additional shape.
Lorac’s contour colors are pretty neutral cool. I really liked that the palette included a transitional shade, like the Medium Contour, to add to your cheeks as the first step to create a more natural contoured look.
The Light Contour was also really useful to contour my nose. The coolness of this shade makes contouring a little more natural to mimic actual shadows. You could compare this to Anastasia’s Java, but the Light Contour was lighter and much more cooler.
Lastly, the Deep Contour was great for added definition to my cheeks.
This brush was a major bonus in this palette and as I’ve said earlier, it is similar to the NARS Itta brush. Also feels very similar to the Real Techniques brush I have, which I wasn’t blown away by.
Before I make any further judgements about this brush, I think I’ll have to get used to the overall shape. I watched Carol Shaw (Lorac’s founder) and she made it look so easy contouring with this brush, so I might have to switch out my usual contour brushes with this one to get a feel for it.
I will say that I like how precise I can get using it with the Deep Contour.
Overall, I’m liking this a lot more than my Anastasia Contour Kit. The shadows are much softer and more flattering with my skin tone. Because the products are so pigmented, I found that without applying setting powder over my foundation, the LORAC contour/highlight powders can apply patchy. I recommend setting your foundation and applying the LORAC contour/highlight powders in very light layers to build up the color.
