Mally Beauty Face Defender Review (c/o)
Not to toot my own horn or anything, but at first glance, 99% of the time I can usually tell what a makeup product does immediately.
This product was in the 1%.
The Mally Beauty Face Defender is a setting product that comes in a clear, silicon, gel-type form (kinda weird, right?). With the sponge it comes with, you’re meant to tap the product into the skin (no swiping!), for a more seamless way to set your makeup. The colorless feature is supposed to keep your foundation staying true to color and to avoid that dreaded mismatch between your neck and your face.
So I tried it for a couple days, powdering one half and using the Face Defender on the other.
I didn’t mind the silicon texture (which I know some people hate) and the Face Defender did a similar job at keeping my skin more oil-free, but what bothered me the most was that it made my foundation look more separated at the end of the day whenever I applied the Face Defender.
The packaging is also not very travel friendly either, not ideal for purse touchups and the thick sponge it comes with doesn’t even fit in the compact.
I think I’ll be sticking to my usual oil-controlling primers, foundations, and powders to keep my face matte.
What do you use to set or touchup your makeup? A spray? Powder? Blotting paper?

It’s such a shame that this didn’t work out for you and how odd that the sponge is so huge! I find that blotting papers work best for me as it means I can control the oil without piling on the powder and creating a cakey look! xx

I’ve tried something out like this before. I don’t know if it was by smashbox… or some other “s” name. Maybe even make up for ever. It was strange, right?! I didn’t end up finishing mine (or using mine for more than a week). I didn’t like it.

Ooooo thanks for the concise and honest review. I’ve heard a lot of amazing things about her products and this one too but that’s not a favorable thing, having your foundation separate more by the end of the day! I always stick to pressed powders for keeping my face matte and I think I’ll be sticking to them too :p
