It’s that time of the year again…new drugstore makeup releases!
So I’m totally guilty of heading towards the makeup section EVERY TIME I’m at a drugstore, Target, Walmart, you name it. But in January, I get serious.
Like clockwork, January is the time when the drugstore makeup brands release a bunch of new products and it’s usually the best of the year.
Now, I didn’t pick up all the newest products, just these few that caught my eye and I just wanted to give you my first impressions.
YESS, finally. An affordable contour and highlighting palette at the drugstore…and is surprisingly not a total fail!
I ended up buying Deep and Medium just for the contour shades. Medium for daytime and Deep for night makeup.
So first impressions? The tones were excellent and I found that I needed to really blend and buff the contour into my skin. It’s buildable and I’m really liking how the powder is on the cooler side.
The highlighters didn’t swatch so great – Deep’s highlighter was way too dark for me and Medium’s highlighter had very sorry looking glitter (not shimmer!) in it.
EDIT: The Medium highlighter isn’t glittery after all (maybe some glitter particles got into it from my other makeup), it does have a shimmer, but not as much as the Lumi highlighters. I had to layer it on a few times to get a decent strobing effect.
The Infallible Pro Matte Glosses are getting some hype in the beauty space and since matte lips are all the rage, I definitely wanted to give these a try.
First of all, don’t be fooled with the name “matte gloss.” I made the mistake of thinking it was a matte liquid lipstick, but it’s more of a creamy mousse liquid lipstick that kinda sets more satin than matte. These matte(ish) glosses are comfortable to wear throughout the day and the pigmentation is amazing, just don’t expect totally matte lips.
First impressions say yes to the glosses if you like matte lips and especially hate how dry most matte lip products are. As for the contour and highlighting palette, I think it might depend on which palette you get. The lightest shade looks the most promising.
Have you picked up anything new from the drugstore lately? I’ve been eyeing the Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid Lip Color…

That’s too bad about the highlight being glittery! Thanks for such a great review!

I honestly cannot stand the smell of L’oreal lip products. Of all the ones I’ve tried, they all seem to have the same old-lady lipstick smell to them. I’m not a huge fan of contouring, so I’ve been looking for a cheaper palette to try it out a bit more. Too bad the highlight didn’t hold up to your expectations.

Oh yes!!! I know what scent you’re talking about, these lip glosses have that too. 🙁
