You guys know by now that I LOVE me some coral, but orange? That’s another story. As with any color, there are certain shades that look good on my skin tone and in this case, the lipstick I chose is on the orange-soda side, an orange that doesn’t enhance my skin tone too well. So here’s what I do when I find that a certain orange is too bold for my taste – I add some red!
1.) Prime. My lips are super pigmented so to make the lipstick/lipliner’s true color show, I make a blank canvas by using the left over foundation on my brush.
2.) Outline. Here I chose an red-orange lipliner from Starlooks called Kinky around my lips and towards the middle of my lips, but made sure to leave a little space for the orange lipstick. Outlining your lips like this also creates some depth to your lips – so for the ladies that wish that their lips were a little fuller, try using a lipliner a little bit darker than your lipstick for a more pouty look!
3.) Fill in. Add your orange lipstick in the center of your month and blend, blend, blend. You don’t want the red-orange lipliner to be too obvious, so blend for a seamless look. Here I used the LA Colors Hydrating Lipstick in Orange Love (swatch below).
4.) All done! The red-orange lipliner is super subtle, but trust me, it really makes a huuuge difference!
As you can see above, the LA Colors Hydrating Lipstick* in Orange Love is really orange, but I find the lipstick really easy to wear and is quite hydrating on the lips. With one swipe, the lipstick is semi-sheer, but you can build it up for a more creamy opaque look.
Orange is not an everyday color for me, so when I want to try really bold shades, I visit my fave budget makeup lines first so I can afford to experiment. This LA Colors Hydrating Lipstick is the perfect example (there are TONS of colors), it’s around $2.50 to buy at Kmart and I won’t feel guilty if I only wear this a couple of times.
