Tarte Tarteist Contour Palette Review & Swatches (c/o)
All thanks to the never dying contour trend (I’m not complaining!), the contour palettes just keep popping up in the makeup world. Tarte released its Tarteist Contour Palette late last year and after trying it for a couple weeks, I can’t wait to tell you what I think.
This palette comes with 6 shades and if you take a closer look, each shade is numbered, making it easy to create contoured looks with no confusion at all. The layout of the palette reminds me of an artist’s paint palette, don’t you think?

The tones in the palette are great — the darker shades are really nice neutrals that did not lean too warm or too cool. The matte highlight shades were nice on my skin too and did not look too light.
I have mixed feelings about the texture of the powders though. The contour powders feel really buttery and soft, but almost chalky. Using the tarteist sculpt & slim contour brush helped a little with the blending, but overall, blending the darker shades took a little more work than my other contouring palettes. Even when my skin was well powdered, I found that it applied patchy.
Another disappointment was the shimmer highlighting shade. After blending it out, it barely showed up on my skin…
I had no problems with the matte highlight shades though, it did the job at highlighting and setting my concealer. I also really enjoyed the blush shade and unlike most contour palettes (which don’t contain any blush at all), the blush was super handy to have.
Without this brush, I would have a harder time blending the powders in this palette. The larger brush has super soft synthetic bristles that helped a lot with the blending, but on the other end of the brush, I found the bristles too short and not fluffy enough for more precise contouring.
I had high hopes for the palette, especially considering it had a really pretty blush and impressive tones! But for me, this one will have to be a pass.
The Tarte Tarteist Contour Palette is available for $45 at tartecosmetics.com, Sephora, Macy’s, and Ulta Beauty.

I really liked this palette! I’m quite fair though, so I liked that the powders weren’t super pigmented. I could see how anyone with skin darker than mine might not like this one.
