Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches (c/o)
When I first heard that Urban Decay and Gwen Stefani were partnering up to create an eyeshadow palette, I immediately knew the palette would be a great match.
Both known for their edgy style, they both created this 15 shade eyeshadow palette to house all of Gwen’s favorite and must-have shades in one single palette. Twelve of the shades are new, while three are from the UD collection. Only four are matte, while the rest have some sort of shimmer or glitter running through them.
Down to the names and packaging, Gwen customized and designed the palette inspired by her music and signature style.
Urban Decay really shines in its shimmer eyeshadows – it packs a punch in its pigmentation and the texture is so buttery. The eyeshadows that contained more glitter in it, like Pop and Bathwater, were at times slightly chunky or powdery to swatch. The matte shades also took a few layers to get it to its full glory but nonetheless, was easy to blend.
There is fallout with these eyeshadows, so make sure to use a primer or apply foundation last if you’re trying to create a smoky eye.

I can tell a lot of thought went into the packaging and in every bit of the palette, including the cover, mirror and hinges, it’s quite sturdy.
While the quality and beautiful packaging were there, based on my skin tone, I wasn’t super impressed with the color range. More than 60% of the eyeshadows were on the light/shimmery side and unfortunately on me, they look too similar on. I do appreciate that she included transition crease colors (Zone and Anaheim), but the midrange tones that work for me in the crease and on the lid were mostly lacking.
For me, this palette will be used for polar opposite looks: smoky/bold or glowy/barely-there makeup. I could make it work with a little more thought and creativity, but I like palettes with the right shades to make it super intuitive to create looks.
If you’re a big fan of Gwen and have a similar style/skin tone as her, this palette may be worth getting. But for me and my needs, it just wasn’t the one.
The Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette is available for $58 at UrbanDecay.com, Sephora, ULTA, Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Beauty.com.

I’ve heard so much about this palette lately, but I’ve been really iffy whether it was something I wanted to get because of the color range. I love Punk and Baby, but these shades are really similar to ones I already have. This was a really helpful review though; thanks for sharing Alyson! 🙂

Glad I’m not the only one that feels that way! I agree, there are a few hidden gems, but those few shades aren’t worth $58.

I was so excited when I first saw this palette. But the more I looked at it, the more I disliked the colour selection. I completely agree that they look really similar. And I fell like I already these colours throughout other palettes. Such as shame!

Totally!! All the shades I could ever really need are from their Naked palettes. I think I would have liked it more if it had more depth in their neutral colors.
