It’s all about the effortless naturally pretty makeup in Napa.
Although Napa may look and feel luxurious with breathtaking wine estates and gourmet food, it’s certainly not all about the glitz and the glam. Whenever I’m there, life feels slower and I appreciate the little things more. I find that I take my time enjoying my glass of wine while looking out at the vineyards and people are so much more relaxed than SF.
So when you’re packing for a trip to Napa, don’t think you have a full face of makeup on. If it takes longer than 15 minutes to do your makeup, you’re probably putting on way too much! Chances are you’re going to have your sunglasses on, so don’t think you need to apply falsies or wear a flawless eyeshadow look.
Primer
To get that effortless dewy skin, start with a primer that has a bit of a glow. Whether you’re oily or dry, get into the habit of applying primer. Depending on your skin type, it’ll help your foundation last longer or moisturize your skin throughout the day. This one has been my fave for a while now…
Tinted Moisturizer with SPF
As someone who has acne, it’s easy to go overboard with the foundation. Sometimes I want to cover it all! But because it’s so hot in Napa, skin looks so much better when it’s not caked on with makeup. I actually love seeing imperfections peaking through, it makes your skin that much more real. So choose a sheer to medium coverage foundation (like this one or this one by Beautycounter) that has an SPF.
Highlighting Concealer
Choose a concealer that can be used as a highlighter too. I find that these ones are thinner in consistency and blend into the skin easier. I love this or this one by Beautycounter because it covers my dark circles and I can use it to highlight my cheeks and the bridge of my nose.
Bronzer
Pick a bronzer that can double as a contour and bronzer. I love this one by Beautycounter because I can whack it on without really trying. I can also use it as an eyeshadow!
Bright Blush + Gloss
It’s Summer, so don’t be afraid to play with a little color. Combining a brightening blush and gloss will look very Summer appropriate without being OTT. The gloss that I have in my purse right now (see review here) is perfect for Napa because it moisturizes my lips and leaves a little tint.
Highlighter
Dewy skin is in all year round and it looks stunning in Napa. Don’t go overboard though, just apply enough to create an effortless glow! I’ve been using this one because it melts into my skin and looks like a glow versus an obvious highlight.
Water Resistant Mascara
In case you get allergies, choose a mascara that is water resistant. Be careful of waterproof mascara if you’re oily! The oil from your skin will break down the mascara, which is why I use this one instead.
Setting Spray
This will depend on the type of skin you have, but I like using setting sprays to not only set my makeup (plus it moisturizes my skin even more), but also to cool me down when it’s so hot out!
+Bonus: Facial Razor
The last thing I want to do is tweeze when I’m on vacay, so having a facial razor makes it really easy to keep my brows in shape. These razors are so cheap and are easy to pack!
