It’s candle season! There’s something about lighting up candles in the evening that makes your room so much cozier.
I’ve been wanting to try Diptyque for such a long time now, but for me, it’s such an investment to buy one so I made absolutely sure it was worth it. I decided to play it safe and bought Baies, which smells like roses and black currant. It’s a wonderful candle that I’d light all year round, but I think I’ll buy a muskier scent for the Autumn/Winter time. I personally love cranberry scents this time of year!
Anyway, I just lit up this precious candle for the first time tonight while doing my dreaded research paper and it’s definitely making it much more bearable. 🙂
Have you tried any Diptyque candles, if so, which one should I try next?

I’ve never tried these before, but I’ve certainly seen them around. Been lighting more candles recently as well. They are perfect this time of year.

I’ve never tried Diptyque before, but I’m very curious about this. I love Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candles. Where can you buy it?

While I was in Boston recently, I found Jo Malone. Man oh man do I wish I hadn’t. I spent a pretty penny but now I have a few Jo Malone candles. I’m thinking I had to buy some of these candles as well. I’m a candle hoarder 😉

They’re great but I’m not sure they’re quite worth the cost. I have Figuier (fig tree) and Oranger (orange tree). All in all they’ve got gorgeous and sophisticated smells and amazing throw (even the standard size can smell up my large room very easily and will smell up most of the house if I leave my door open, including the floor above).
BUT! My issues are mainly two:
1. As great as they are, I don’t think they’re better than NEST (check them out, they are FAN.TASTIC) though, as far as I’m concerned. Maybe I’m not scent snob enough but I think NEST are at least as good, and they’re like half the price. So I think you get what you pay for up to a certain point and then beyond you’re just paying for the brand name/prestige.
2. The fragrances are intricate and layered…so layered, in fact, that they can smell deceptively different cold in the store than lit back home! There are notes that only appear (like magic!) after you’ve lit them, and it’s happened to me with both my candles and disappointed me a bit. Oranger smelled lovely fresh and summery cold, like oranges and orange leaves/blossoms, and then back home…it smells like Christmas. And I don’t like Christmas smells! There’s a clove and nutmeg-ish note than only comes out when lit and makes it smell like my mom’s kitchen at Christmas. Which is not a bad smell by default, I’m sure some people will love it but it’s not my thing. And Figuier smelled fresh, crisp and also summery and green in the shop, and lit it suddenly becomes musky and earthy, like soil and grass after the rain. Which I love, as a smell, but I don’t really want as my bedroom smell. I have Baies as well which I have not lit yet…cold it smells like roses with a bit of green and berries, but let’s see what that transforms into when I light it!
Consider NEST as a very viable alternative and if you want to stick to Diptyque snoop/ask around a bit before you buy simply based on what they smell like cold.

Oh, PS: Figuier is weak. The standard size Oranger throws wayyy more smell than the LARGE Figuier. Just a heads-up if you like your candles strong.
