When you get an invitation to get your hair done by a master stylist and colorist, you don’t turn it down.
There are few instances in my life where I’ve had pinch-me moments – this was one of them.
This salon visit was a long time coming. With 6 locations across the US, it took me about 5 months to finally nail down an appointment with founders Jon & Christine. Here’s a little background on the both of them:
Jon is the former Artistic Director of Aveda’s Advanced Academy in NYC whose editorial work has been featured in countless publications and he has appeared as an expert on shows like Project Runway and Good Morning America. Christine has been coloring hair for over 26 years with a specialty in corrective color and color change. Together they do over 10 shows every season at New York Fashion week and abroad.
They both split their time between 6 salons, so I jumped at the chance to schedule their only opening back in October.

THE TREATMENT
My hair had been previously curled a few days earlier, so I arrived with my hair wavy and unwashed. Jon’s haircutting process was so interesting and so different from what I was used to. First, he requested that I had my hair straightened before he cut my hair and he only cuts hair dry. With other stylists, my hair is usually colored first, washed, and then cut wet.
Before the cut started, we talked about what I wanted and he specifically asked for pictures of the hairstyle I wanted. As an educator, he stressed that what I wanted could mean different things to him. For example, when I requested Bardot bangs, he told me that there are different types of Bardot bangs. And he was totally right – as I scrolled through Pinterest, I saw so many styles of bangs Bardot wore over the years.
THE PROCESS
Once we decided on a cut, he started to cut my hair dry and then suddenly, a crowd started to surround us. Every move Jon made, it seemed like the staff ummed and ahhed. He cut my hair so effortlessly – no measuring with his fingers, he really just eyeballed it and made my layers look softer.
Next up was my hair dye. Christine worked on bringing the balayage up further and also worked on getting my ends as light as she could. Her explanations were also very thorough like Jon and told me that because my hair is naturally dark, she wasn’t sure how much my hair would lighten without damaging it too much. Her staff constantly asked her questions about the bleach mixture she concocted and how she painted my balayage.
After my hair processed, her assistants toned and styled my hair.

THE RESULTS
I was left with super light ends that transitioned perfectly into a beachy summery blonde ombre. My previous layers were very blunt, so I loved that Jon softened and blended it into the rest of my hair. I also really loved my new bangs and he gave me some short layers around my hairline so that I could leave some layers out with my hair up.
I was a 100% satisfied with my cut and color and Jon and Christine definitely did not disappoint. I can’t tell you how happy I was knowing that my hair was done by two master stylists. I felt like a new person with my bangs and was so in love with my super light blonde balayage.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Would I get my hair done with them again? Absolutely – if I had the money, ha! In total, my cut/color was about $1400.
If you can afford it, I wouldn’t hesitate to book them. As masters in their industry, I felt very taken care of and not once did I doubt their craft.
Haircuts with Jon starts at $800.
Color with Christine starts at $600.
