In less than a month, I’m going to 30! Yes, THIRTY. (Insert screaming emoji)
There are many things I’ve been thinking about this past year about this huge milestone and I’m very slowly coming to terms with it. One of things I’ve made an effort to do before my birthday is working out and taking my anti-aging routine up a notch. I plan on doing a fitness update soon, so stay tuned for that!
You can probably guess that eating dessert is off limits, so I’m hitting two birds with one stone by finding creative ways to get my sugar fix and to add supplements.
After some research, I learned that collagen is something we lose over time and is super important when it comes to anti-aging. Here are some benefits of collagen…I mean, it doesn’t hurt to start early!
- Prevents and reverses aging: Adding collagen into your diet can increase skin moisture levels, improve skin elasticity, and prevent and plump up current lines and wrinkles. Sounds good so far, right?!
- Improves digestion: If you have stomach probs, taking collagen can support hydrochloric acid production in your stomach and helps repair the lining in our stomach and small/large intestines. The improved digestion could also help with skin issues like acne, eczema, and rosacea.
- Strengthens hair & nails: Collagen is the foundation of your hair and nails, so you’ll notice that your hair and nails grow faster and stronger when you start taking collagen supplements.
So when I’m craving for something chocolatey, I’ve been making this anti-aging chocolate banana coconut smoothie with 1 scoop of the Vital Proteins Marine Collagen that feels really indulgent with coconut cream on top.
What you’ll need for this smoothie:
- 1 frozen banana
- 2/3 cup cashews soaked in water blended or 1 cup cashew milk
- 1 cup coconut water
- 2 tbsp cacao powder
- 1 scoop of Vital Proteins Marine Collagen
For the topping, you’ll need:
- A dollop of whipped coconut cream mixed with maple syrup
- Cacao nibs
- Shaved coconut
Blend all together until you get a creamy consistency. I added more ice to my smoothie that day since it was 90+ degrees, but adding only frozen bananas will keep the smoothie creamier.

Top your smoothie with coconut whipped cream, coconut flakes, cacao nibs and you’ve got a yummy dessert that’s really good for you too!
There are tons of collagen supplements on the market, but I like the Vital Proteins Marine Collagen because it tastes good with just about everything (even hot water, tea, coffee!) and is from non-GMO wild-caught snapper scales that were caught under sustainable harvesting. PLUS, each scoop has ~5g of protein, which is perfect for my diet right now since I’m adding tons more protein into my diet.
I’ve even heard that Jennifer Aniston takes the Vital Proteins Marine Collagen daily…if she’s on board with collagen, I’m on board too!
Do any of you take anti-aging supplements like collagen? Would love to know!
Cheers!
